Square peg solitaire solution
Start with c3 empty. Make 34 jumps and the last marble lands on c3. This is one verified route, so use it to check your own idea, or to see how an old puzzle is finished.
How to read it
Every jump is written as two holes, like c1 → c3: the marble that moves, then the empty hole it lands on. The marble it jumps over is removed. Every hole shows its name on the board, and the next jump glows. Click any number to see the position after that jump, or use ← / → to step and Space to play.
The route in brief
- Jump 1: c1 → c3. Replay from the start
- By jump 18 the top-right corner is empty. Show it
- By jump 29 the bottom-right corner is empty. Show it
- By jump 31 the bottom-left corner is empty. Show it
- By jump 33 the top-left corner is empty. Show it
- Before the last jump only c1 and c2 are left. Then c1 → c3 ends on c3. Show the last jump
Where players go wrong
These jumps look natural, and each one leaves a position that can no longer reach c3.
