Daily peg solitaire puzzle

One puzzle, the same for everyone

At midnight UTC a new puzzle goes up, and for the next twenty-four hours every player gets exactly the same position: the same board, the same marbles, the same marked target. There is no leaderboard to chase here, only the quiet knowledge that somewhere else someone is stuck on the same jump as you.

Daily puzzles are short on purpose. Each one starts partway through a verified solution, so you do not face a whole game, only the last stretch of one. And because it is cut from a real solution, the puzzle can always be won. If you are stuck, the fault is in a jump you made, never in the puzzle.

It is a small habit, the sort that fits between other things. Do it with your coffee, share the result, and come back tomorrow.

How the daily puzzle is made

The board changes every day and cycles through all six, so you meet the English cross, the French board, the triangle, the diamond, Wiegleb’s cross and the square in turn, each one every sixth day. Tomorrow is always the next board in that order.

The position is then rotated or flipped, so the same stretch of a solution looks different on different days, and the target moves with it.

The calendar, stars and streaks

Today’s puzzle is selected when you open Daily. Pick an earlier date on the calendar to see that day’s board and press Play; days that have not arrived yet stay locked. A gold star marks a day you won, and an outline star marks a day you finished without winning.

Your streak counts consecutive days you have won. If you have not played today yet, yesterday’s streak still shows, and it only resets when a whole day passes without a win. Replaying a day you have already won does not add another day.

Tips for the daily puzzle

  • Count first. Marbles left minus one is the number of jumps still to make, so you always know how long the road is.
  • Think backwards from the target. The last jump has to land on it, so work out which two marbles must be left in line with it.
  • Keep your marbles connected. A marble with no neighbour can never jump, and one stranded marble ends the puzzle.
  • Undo freely, and if you are truly stuck, ask for a hint. It is marked in the result you share, and the puzzle is still a win.

Questions people ask

When does the daily puzzle change?

At midnight UTC, for everyone at the same moment. The date shown above the board is the UTC date.

Is the daily puzzle always solvable?

Yes. Every daily puzzle starts partway through a solution that the game has already verified, so there is always a way to finish on the marked target.

Do I need an account to keep my streak?

No. Your streak, stars and unfinished games are saved in your browser on this device, which also means they do not follow you to another browser or device.

What if I miss a day?

Earlier days stay open. Choose the date on the calendar, play it, and it earns its star when you win it.

Can I share my result?

Yes. When you finish, Share shows your result as a few lines of text, and Copy link copies it so you can paste it to a friend.
